What is the IGSHPA?
The International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) is an international nonprofit organization that promotes education, research, and adoption of ground source heat pump technology around the world. Its membership includes both individuals and geothermal companies. Several of Dandelion’s employees are registered members of the IGSHPA.
What is the IGSHPA responsible for?
The IGSHPA is responsible for setting international industry standards in GSHP design, manufacturing, and installation. These standards are “intended as a source of minimum standards and guidelines….a necessary tool for product developers and manufacturers, contractors, architects, engineers, utility representatives, and anyone else concerned with proper and efficient design and installation.”
Headquartered at Oklahoma State University, the IGSHPA encourages geothermal research and development in academia and industry alike by hosting annual research conferences.

What other governing bodies for geothermal heat pumps are there?
The IGSHPA supports the GSHP industry at the international level, but many other local and national governing bodies and nonprofit organizations also exist. For example, if you’re a New Yorker who is interested in GSHPs, the Geothermal Exchange Organization (GEO) is your national nonprofit, the New York Geothermal Energy Organization (NY-GEO) is your state-level nonprofit, and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is your state-level governing body.
