Celebrating Earth Day 2021

On Earth Day people come together to celebrate the ecosystem that connects us all.

It’s a day to reflect on the positive steps we’ve made to protect it.

Since the first Earth Day in 1970, we’ve passed the Clean Air, Clean Water & Endangered Species Acts, established the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and in 2016, the United Nations chose Earth Day as the day to sign the Paris Climate Agreement. 

Since 1980, about 99% of the lead in the air has been removed, along with 83% of the carbon monoxide and 65% of the nitrogen dioxide. 

We’ve saved bald eagles, grizzly bears, gray wolves, humpback whales, and manatees. 

All proof that our efforts can make a difference. 

Despite our progress, deforestation continues to shrink the world’s tropical forests, biodiversity is being lost, species extinction is accelerating, and our oceans are littered with plastic. 

Since 1970, CO2 emissions have increased by about 90%, with emissions from fossil fuel combustion and industrial processes contributing about 78% of the total greenhouse gas emissions increase from 1970 to 2011.

From an individual standpoint, it’s hard to know which major lifestyle changes can decrease your carbon footprint.

At Dandelion, our mission is to make it easier and more affordable to heat and cool homes with renewable geothermal energy.

Currently, space heating, air conditioning, and water heating account for ~70% of energy use in home, according to the EIA.

Switching from an outdated oil furnace and central AC to geothermal heat pumps can reduce a home’s CO2 emissions by up to 80%. 

In fact, for many homeowners it’s the single biggest thing they can do to reduce their Carbon Footprint.

Our customers are already making a difference.

As of today, 151,100 tons of CO2 emissions will be offset by Dandelion systems over the next 25 years.

That’s the weight of about 747 Boeing 747s, which is equivalent to taking 29,614 cars off the road, or the same amount of CO2 sequestered by 179,016 acres of forest.

Today is a day to reflect on how far we’ve come with recognition of how far we have to go.
