PRESS RELEASE: New Startup Dandelion to Scale Home Geothermal Nationally
Company Spun Out of X (formerly Google X) after Developing Breakthrough Technology
June 6, 2017 (New York, NY) – Today, Dandelion, a new home geothermal startup, announces its exit from X (formerly known as Google X) and launch of its operations to offer homeowner a breakthrough heating and cooling opportunity. The startup was originally conceived of by ex-Googler Bob Wyman and will be led by Kathy Hannun and James Quazi, who are leaving X to run the company full time.
At X, Kathy Hannun, now CEO of Dandelion, led a team in developing a proprietary drill and other technology that both lowers the cost of a geothermal system by over 50%, halves the time it takes to install a system and makes installation significantly cleaner. Adding on a zero-down financing package, Dandelion can now offer homeowners the ability to pay nothing upfront and save significant amounts of money on heating and cooling by switching to geothermal.
“I could not be happier to be launching Dandelion’s product offering to the public,” said Kathy Hannun, CEO of Dandelion. “For the over seven million homeowners who still use oil to heat their homes we offer a safer, cleaner, and significantly more affordable solution.”
James Quazi, who will serve as Dandelion’s COO, brings his operational experience from running a team at SolarCity and his expertise in building advanced predictive energy models. James co-founded energy efficiency and energy modeling company that was acquired by SolarCity in 2010.
“Geothermal has always been the safest and most energy and cost efficient way to heat a home; At X, we were able to build a sophisticated model to discover by just how much on a home leve. With this information, we are launching in the areas where we know the most people can save the most money by switching to geothermal,” said James.
Dandelion has partnered with a local installer, Aztech Geothermal, in upstate New York for its initial installations. The company is now operational and seeking customers in New York counties including Dutchess, Ulster, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Albany, Schenectady, Schoharie, Saratoga, Montgomery and Fulton.
